I probably have thousands of what I call "journal paintings" which are small paintings that I do while travelling and others that are of events and scenes I see in my everyday life.  I keep these "journal paintings" close at hand as reference material when I'm working on pieces that require detailed information on certain subject matters. For instance, all the paintings I've done of lakes and streams give me invaluable ideas as I worked on this piece. I had a nest on hand that gave me inspiration for the one in this painting. Also, I must mention my partner who generously modeled for me...even striking the dificult pose of the boy diving in the water! Bless him!

This detail shows the textures acheived by embossing the paper before applying paint.

I was working on this piece while housesitting for friends. They happened to have a mounted trout on their wall which became the model for the fish in this painting. And, as is evident, I added my own fanciful detail to each one.
