Gallery Four features examples of the many commissioned works
I have done. I have received commissions to do paintings that
celebrate the birth of a child, sisterhood, love, marriage, birthdays,
and the love of pets. As well, I've done paintings that illustrated
significant dreams, a passion for gardening, lost childhood toys,
and ones that commemorate the passing of loved ones.

If you have visited my first website, www.alannamarohnic.com, you will be familiar with the fact that I only work from a combination of my imagination, real life and memories. I completely avoid working from photos. Therefore, for commissioned work, it's very important to interview the client for a detailed verbal description of what they would like to see in the painting or what mood they would like me to capture. This information is crucial to collect before starting the painting since it is vital that I have enough information to create a painting that speaks uniquely to the client. Please feel free to email me with any inquiries you may have. Email: info@alannamarohnic.com.

1. "Brightness Through Water"
orange fish and shadows (right)
water colour
framed
size approx 24 x 29 inches

The couple who
commissioned
this painting have
collected my work
for many years and
were drawn to the
spray and stencil
work I was beginning
to do.
They didn't ask for a
specific theme, but
instead gave me
carte blanche to
create a large
painting that was
strongly abstract.

2. "L' Automne Glorieux"
woman and man in autumn forest (left)
water colour and ink
framed
size approx 14 X 28 inches (not including framing)

This painting was commissioned
by a couple who wanted a painting
that celebrated their love for each other.
In order to make this painting reflect
specific details of their life, I asked
for an informal interview to discover
the activities they enjoyed, their
favourite season, favourite colours,
favourite time of day. They both
loved the autumn and spending
time in the bush. She loved the
night and he loved the morning.
All these details, and more, are
woven into the painting.
This picture only shows the top
half of the painting. The lower half
features a stream full of swimming fish.

3. "Three Sisters Enjoy Their Time Together"
three women and angel sitting on red chair (right)
water colour and ink
framed
size approx 7 x 9 inches
This client had a close relationship with
her two sisters. She commissioned me
to do three small paintings all featuring
three sisters. She gave one to each
sister and one was for herself.

4. "Kobe and Judd Embrace the Lake"
two boys at the lake (left)
water colour and graphite
framed
size approx. 15 x 28 inches
This painting was commissioned by a
woman who is very familiar with my work
and her only request was that the painting
be about her two sons. She wanted to
leave all the details up to me. Her family
had recently moved to a house on a lake
and upon hearing how excited her sons
were to be there, I decided to build the
painting around their joy.
The painting expresses the communication
between children and nature. The nest full
of hearts, with two birds on the nearby branch,
represents the nurturing love of the parents.

5. "Jimmy and Lana Love to Hear Their
Daughter, Reisha, Read to Them"
father, mother, and child on big chair (right)
water colour and ink
framed
I enjoy doing paintings that are personal
to a family. I like to imagine the little child
growing up looking at a painting that is
about them. These paintings are treasured
by the whole family and when the children
become adults and leave home, they
invariably take the paintings with them!

6. "The Animals All Around Us"
animals with the sun and the moon (left)
water colour, ink, and graphite
unframed
size approx 6 x 7 inches
A father commissioned this
painting for his son. He asked
me to do a painting based
on a poem that had particular
meaning to his son about the
sacredness of animals.

7. "You are You"
woman standing on butterfly (right)
water colour, ink, and gold leaf
framed
size approx 13 x 20 inches
This painting was commissioned by a
woman with a thriving massage therapy
business. She wanted a painting for
her clients to enjoy during their treatments.
My goal for this painting was to show the
inner and outer energy of a human body.
I wanted it to be celebratory and reflective
at the same time. The vibrant surface on
which she stands is pulsating with life.
She is in equal harmony with both heaven
and earth. On the white background golden
drops and embossed snowflakes fall from
the sky. These represent the miracles that
are all around us.

8. "Forever Love"
balloon tree with girl and boy (left)
water colour and ink
framed
size approx 13 x 24 inches
This picture shows detail of a larger painting
that I was commissioned to do for a couple
who had recently married. They wanted a
painting that spoke of their life's journey
together. The painting is a seamless collage
of stories, philosophy, experiences,
and merriment.
I've also done ones for adults who love
scuba diving, adore their pets, enjoy luxuriating
in the tub, or wish to recover the memory of
a lost toy from childhood. Some adults want
a painting that represents a particularily powerful
dream they had, reflects their passion for gardening,
or one for a friend as a bereavement gift. When I'm
asked to do a commission, large or small, I feel
entrusted with a duty to create a painting which the
client will immediately recognize is especially for
them. This is a challenge that I enjoy. To do this
work I must put myself in a particular head space;
one that is tuned to pick up subtle feelings and
larger ideas from the client, as both are necessary
to make the painting a success.
